Joel 3:18
"In that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk; all the ravines of Judah will run with water. A fountain will flow out of the Lord's house and will water the valley of acacias."
When Jesus turned the water into wine at the wedding in Cana, he fulfilled prophecies recorded in Joel and Amos, among others. An unnamed couple married, a feast ensued, and the scrolls of ancient Scripture rolled back and revealed Messiah.
This morning, we'll return for a final time to the wedding in John 2:1-10. Before we do, let's ask the Holy Spirit to speak Truth and Life as He fills us.
Perhaps one of the greatest symbols in the miracle at Cana is the transformation of water to wine. We know Christ is the Living Water--and those who drink this Water will never thirst again. What's more, we will be the outpouring of Living Water. John 7:38 says, "Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them."
This Living Water came to pour himself out as a sacrifice--the wine, His blood--for you and me. The wedding at Cana is the symbol of Christ's life and sacrifice for those who believe in Him. The fullness of Christ's love flows from these few verses. Where we fall short and run dry, Christ fills overflowing! He gave abundantly (Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons v6), and He gave us His very best (But you have kept the best until now! v10). Here we thirstily approach the King of Glory and receive endless rivers of Living Water. Here, blood washes whiter than snow. And here, at His feet, we are invited to serve for the glory of the One and Only.
What is the Holy Spirit whispering to you this morning? What other symbols in the story have blessed you? Please share!
Reading this passage again, something completely new jumped out at me, "Now dip some out" (vs 8). When Jesus fills it's not for us to "stay filled," but to "dip some out." Praying today He'll show me when and where and with whom to share.
